Interview with Fitz (May 10, 2002)

Me and Fitz during the interview at Italianni's in Glorietta

How he started in the stock market and in technical analysis:

Fitz worked part-time in an investment house while he was studying college in the United States. During his stay there, he enrolled at the New York Institute of Finance for a three month course on the principles of the Elliot Wave.

Persons who influenced his way of thinking:

In Technical Analysis - Glen Neely, Richard Dennis, Constance Brown, Ralph Elliott, W.D. Gann

In Fundamental Analysis - Homer Perez, Ramon Kabigting

Best Trades:

1. Filinvest Land, Inc. (FLI) just before the announcement of the winner in the Fort Bonifacio bidding last 1994. He bought the stock at P9.30 and sold five minutes after at P12.75. He doubled down his selling position and bought everything back another just five minutes after at P9.50. He again took a position at the same price and sold everything by the close at P10.50.

2. Best World, Inc. (BW) several days after its peak at P107 in October 1999. He accumulated 800 thousand shares at an average cost of about P23.50. After a few minutes, he sold his entire position at an average price of P42.50. Ten minutes after, he bought everything back at about P34.00, only to sell it again at the close at the price of P42.50.

Worst Trades:

1. Went long and got stopped out 100 points in 4 seconds at the HK Index Futures market. He lost almost 10% of his entire portfolio in that small span of time.

2. Philweb.com, Inc. (WEB) a few days after its peak at P0.54 in March 2000. He bought WEB thinking that the decline the past few days was just a correction. Unfortunately, it turned out to be the start of the bear market. He cut-loss P30,000 of a P100,000 position.

How he stock picks:

He looks at the overall economy and looks at sectors and/or stocks that could benefit. He also looks at the trend.

He says, "I believe may binabagayan ang bawat stock".
